Have you ever wanted something so badly but keep telling yourself it’s just a dream? It may start off as a dream but can easily be converted into a goal.
Through a series of unfortunate decisions that didn’t pay off, we had to sell our first house to pay off our bills and keep our heads afloat. It was one of the hardest things we’ve ever done, but I knew deep down that some day we would own our own home again. I had no idea how this could possibly happen, but I started putting pictures of houses on our wall, so that when we woke up each morning, it was the first thing we’d see.
I also wrote down my goal in present tense so that to me I had already achieved it and I was living in my new house. I wrote it on a small card and carried it with me all the time. I would read the card many times throughout the day.
One factor in our favour, was that at the time my husband and I worked in separate industries, but both in commission sales. I didn’t know how relevant that would be until later.
One Saturday afternoon while my husband was working at home, I went for a drive, came across a newly released estate, found a block of land and put a $100 deposit down to hold it! I had no idea of how we were even going to make the payments for the land. My husband went along with me thank goodness!
The following week when he decided to work again, I went driving again and came across display homes. I looked through a design I really liked and started chatting to the salesperson. I told him we had a block of land, but it would take quite a long time for us to build. He said he wanted to chat to us so I invited him over. He gave us a plan of how we could start building the house straight away and he gave us 6 weeks to come up with $13,000!
As you can imagine, we were terrified and wondered how on earth he expected us to come up with that amount of money in such a short time. Well I believe the universe is always listening, and within a few weeks we both had the best sales we’d ever had, which meant our commissions were incredible. We generated the $13,000, our house was built and a month after we moved in, we had our daughter’s wedding, which was paid in full, and we had an overseas trip soon after!
If you truly want something then become obsessed with it. If you want a new car, go to the showroom, sit in it, smell the leather seats, take photos and take it for a test drive. If you can see yourself driving away in your new car, then take action to achieve your goal.
One of my mentors was the late Bob Proctor and one of his quotes really resonated with me. He said, “If you see it in your mind, you will hold it in your hand.”
